In Celebration of Black History Month: A poem #2

In celebration of Black History month, I offer two poems.

Any time I'm given an opportunity to feature another creative writer, I will. Wilfred Nettles is a gifted poet. He has allowed these poems to be posted here along with another titled: 'I Am Poverty', listed under Four Freedoms. (posted with permission)

WILL I BE:

Will I be what they said I’d be?

Will all their stereotypes apply to me?

Will I steal and kill and try to get everything for free?

Will I be what they said I’d be?

Will education and success just be a dream for me?

Will my kids learn in life from me?

And when they look at me, what will they see?

When they lay me down in my grave, will the world be proud of the gifts I gave?

Will I show them all- I deserve to be free –

Or will I be what they said I’d be?
